Custom Buffalo Curtains for Kid's Room From Inexpensive Ikea Curtains

I'm working on a Western/National Parks themed room for my three year old son. For the window, I made over these inexpensive Ikea Lenda curtains with a bison or buffalo shaped stencil and acrylic paint. I love the way they turned out (and so does my son!)
I ordered the stencil off of Etsy and picked up the brown paint and stencil brush at a craft store.
There were a surprising number of decisions to make before I started: staggered rows of bison or all lined up? How far apart? Facing the same direction or not? But I finally figured it all out and got to work. I taped down the stencil with masking tape and marked off the spacing with light pencil marks. I deliberately went lightly with the paint to give it kind of a rustic, stamped look.
And....done! Really, it took quite awhile, but it was worth it in the end. I am glad there's only one window in the room, though ;).
