DIY Romantic Ruffle Curtains

I finally got around to doing something about my curtains. I found these at the thrift store years ago and gave them a makeover, but was ready for a change. We moved the furniture around in my room and we now have a fireplace under the window. The fireplace will be getting a makeover soon also, so any ideas are welcome! I wanted curtains that would close over the fireplace and that’s when these DIY Romantic Ruffle Curtains were created!

This is what the curtains looked like before I gave them this sweet makeover. They were to long to close over the fireplace, which is what I wanted.

I started by gathering some fabric and stitching it together with a needle and thread. Tie in a double knot and leave enough thread to tie a knot.

I kept gathering and stitching the curtains until they were the length I wanted.

The DIY ruffle garland I made for my cousin’s bridal shower, was the perfect addition to the curtains. I simply tied the ends of the garland to the threads on the curtains.

What do you think? These DIY Romantic Ruffle Curtains aren’t for everyone, but I love them. The soft hanging ruffles remind me of a Holly Hobbie bedspread I had in the 80’s. What I wouldn’t do to have that bedspread back…

I’ve been open with you all about my struggles with my mental health. I’ve been taking small steps to get my life back and thankfully have some amazing friends who have stepped up to help me. Danielle has been coming over on the weekends to help me organize and declutter, so it’s definitely helped in motivating me to get other projects done.

Those curtains are unique by themselves. What are the round pieces hanging from the curtains? Your ruffles make the whole curtain project just so much more special! 👏👏

I am also quite taken with the dresser scarf you put over the fireplace. It looks thick like tapestry, or did you embroider it? It just sets the whole vignette off perfectly.

(You are lucky to have a friend like Danielle! She has the perfect idea to take it slow with organizing and creating a new decor. I was diagnosed with clinical depression and generalized anxiety disorder in the midst of a divorce. I also was diagnosed with attention deficit disorder - at the age of 60. It helped explain so much about my life and now that I am aware of its symptoms, I can say, I have poor executive function skills, instead of, I am stupid. Improving my executive functioning is possible; improving stupid, not so much. 😀)

Very romantic. Had it been me I’d have just made horizontal Pintucks you way is very organic. Mine would have been more structured. Both acceptable and pretty but I like your take
