From Rubbish to Window

Pieces of throw away Perspex (acrylic glass) and a bit of thinking was all that was needed to create small, but stunning odd shaped windows.
As some of you guys know...we have this round recycled front door....and it came with a few challenges.
One of the challenges we faced were the open pieces on the sides of the round door where it had to fit into a square opening.

The wind and rain blew in and we also needed to keep the monkeys out. In Winter time they find the smallest openings to get into the house to find something to eat.
We found pieces of Perspex (also called acrylic glass) in the garage.
It's been sitting there for quite a long time now but we knew we were going to use it someday.

Hubby cut it up to fit the open areas around the round door. He used round bar to create some sort of a window to put the Perspex in. Luckily the pieces were big enough to fit into all the gaps.

I took Dala's Acrylic Gel Medium and mixed it with paint. I used dark blue. Liquid lead can also be used but I could only find it in black and it was more expensive.
I roughly sketched flowers on all the Perspex pieces. I used a Sharpie pen.
I took my Gel Medium/Acrylic paint mix and squeezed it out over all the lines.

It is important that you leave it to dry out completely. 24 hours is safe.
Dala's Glass Stain was used for the 'colouring in' part. Various colours are available. I used Green, Red and Purple.
You can go about this anyway you want, but I used green to finish all the leaves on all the loose pieces first. Then I used the next colour and finally my last colour.

The reason for this is: You have to clean the brush with Turpentine before changing to another colour. It was just quicker to keep on using the same colour till I was don with it.
The Glass Stain doesn't take as long to dry as the Gel Medium, but I left mine overnight as well...just to make sure.

And here we go! Each piece was set into it's place with clear Sylicone on the side.

This picture was taken during the day.
This was taken at night. Hubby put a small LED light at the top behind the Perspex to be able to see it at night too. No wind, rain or monkeys can get to us now......well, not through here anyway!

Linda I love your door and your diy idea. I’m a little confuzzled as to how you open a round door. Does it roll to the right on a track? If so, how do you resolve the similar dilemma on the right side? If the door opens another way, can you please describe it for me?
