If you like your bedroom pitch black at night these DIY blackout inserts are a simple way to make sure your get a good nights rest. Plus they are removable! MORE PHOTOS & DETAILS HERE!

You can make this from a normal blackout curtain or any material that is light proof. I used this inexpensive blackout insert and cut it to fit.

Though we used Velcro with sticky back, we learned it can pull the paint off the wall if you remove it a lot. I'd suggest Command Strips instead.

Measure your window. Because the insert will be tacked to the inside frame, measure accordingly allowing for a tiny bit of overlap. We didn't hem one side of ours but allow extra if you choose to do that.

Cut your insert to fit. Because we used an actual blackout under curtain mean't to hang behind a normal curtain we only had to cut one side.

Determine where your will place your velcro then attach it to the curtains. This will depend on the size of your window. Ours was large so we used three stronger strips of velcro on the top to hold the weight of the insert.

This shows where we placed ours on a large window. The middle side pieces allow the insert to stay in place but to be raised up without removing it. Those are optional. You may just chose to pop it on and off as needed.

This is a before picture. (The blinds are part way up which is why the top is darker)

This is with the insert. CLICK ON OUR SITE LINK UNDER THE TOP IMAGE to see LOTS MORE PHOTOS!

I prefer to raise mine half way but it can also be removed entirely.
