$2.99 Mantel Becomes A Show Stopping Piece In Our Living Room

I have been wanting to change things up at the top of the entry stairs in our living room, but didn’t know what I wanted to do. While we stopped at a thrift store in the Des Moines, Iowa area, a wood fireplace mantel was welcoming me into the store. It was right inside the front door and I didn’t even hesitate. I took the price tag off and walked up to the check out. I didn’t want anyone else to grab it.
The best part about the mantel was that it cost me a whopping $2.99 AND it came with the faux logs that light up when you plug them in!!!
This is how I found the mantel and the logs in the store (minus the chair).
I could not wait to get the mantel home and start working on it.
We brought it into the space and measured it. It was too tall as it was so Matt cut it down so it would fit better. Then, I painted it in {aff}  “Palmetto” from Dixie Belle Paint. As soon as I got the paint on the mantel, I knew I was going to love it in our living room.
Once we had the wood fireplace mantel installed, I couldn’t wait to “fallify” it. The first thing I did was hang an antique mirror above the mantel. I had found it at a thrift store shortly after I found the mantel. Then, I wanted to add something fall to the mirror so I created an easy fall garland to drape over it. You can find the fall garland tutorial  HERE. I love this garland. It was so easy to make and very inexpensive. I see it showing up in different colors and sizes around here in the future. icon
I am telling you, I am obsessed with this new addition to our living room. I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. I am excited to decorate it for every season!  Even though I have been decorating our home frugally with yard sale and thrift store finds, I still get amazed every time I find amazing pieces. It is so much fun and I love sharing the entire process on my blog: mycreativedays.com

For the bathroom mirror and vanity project, did she paint the countertop also? It is a different color in the after pictures

I love this . I would love to try it if I could find a mantel somewhere. Especially for $2.99 I live in Denver. You can't buy a candy bar for that here.
