White wash of old brick fireplace and painted mantel.
Before pic of outdated fireplace...
We bought this home, but hated this fireplace in the master bedroom. We've lived here 3 years and had planned to tear the brick out and use tile with a surround. Due to the expense, mess, and time that would be involved, I got inpatient and decided to try the 'white wash' method I saw on Pinterest. I masked everything off that I didn't want to get paint on and used a drop cloth for the floor. I then painted the old brick with a grayish tan paint mixed half and half with water. I then painted the mantel using a solid brown walnut paint. I allowed the fireplace and mantel to dry, then removed the masking tape and drop cloth. The entire project took about 2 hours. We still had to finish painting the hearth edges in this pic. The last pic shows the completed fireplace.
In this pic the hearth edge still shows the old brick. We have now finished this as you can see in the last picture.
With some decor added...
The almost finished product with bottom edge of hearth painted.
My husband decided to frame the fireplace...
He used a mantel we purchased a couple years ago and framed up around fireplace.

Finished product. He used lumber and his power tools to cut, and form mantel, surround, and took it up to the ceiling. I absolutely love my fireplace now!!!

Did you use shading of some sort on the grey brick, or just paint it? It looks shaded although that may be because of the 3D and angles of the brick.... thanks
