Last summer we decided to downsize to a small ranch home, we ended up finding this cute diamond in the ruff, all it needed was just some TLC. This is what the fireplace looked like when we moved in.
Old fireplace
First thing we did was tile the insert. We applied mussels tile adhesive, you can get this at your local Lowes store, use this instead of mortar, it works just as well & a whole lot less mess!
New & cozy fireplace!
I painted the surround with American Decor chalk paint in yellow, then went over with deep brown wax, also American Decor. I took paper towels & wiped off wax after applying, this leaves you with a much more muted yellow or aged yellow.
I also painted an embellishment with Modern masters metal effects paints with blue patina, the vents under the tile were also painted with this paint, I used just a little of the blue patina on this part, I only wanted a little ageing here.
