Living Room & Marble Fireplace Renovation
When I first looked at this house with my clients we knew that the we needed to make a lot of changes - the wood floors were moldy and severely water damaged, the ceiling was crumbling and the wallpaper was peeling off the walls. But there was one thing for sure that we knew that we wanted to keep... the beautiful marble mantle. The original owners were planning to pick out some nice paint colors and use part of their small budget to hopefully make the fireplace functional again. But as well all know, old houses are full of surprises!
Here is the original photo of the living room fireplace.
Another view of the living room - we knew we needed to save those doors and molding! The chandelier was saved and used in another project.
We pulled down the wallpaper and SURPRISE! Instead of being bricked up or sealed by wood, the entire fireplace and chimney was filled with concrete.
Under the wallpaper was terrible wood paneling. It was not in the owners budget to replace walls and they did not want to paint over.
With new challenges in our way, we decided to make a new plan.
We chose a beautiful wallpaper to cover up the paneling and a gorgeous tile to fill in the non working fireplace.
We are in love with the end result! The fireplace has maintained its old charm with an updated look. It also looks beautiful with candles in front; the shine on the tile adds to the glow. Here it is decorated for the holidays.
