White wash the stone but leave the grout the color that it is now.
Just paint it to go with your decor as though it is any wall. As an accent wall (as it must already be) maybe consider painting it a nice ocean blue...various shades would work nicely, even going into the aqua color that's so popular now. Or maybe a nice shade of grey if it picks up a color in the tapestry hanging there. A nice light green might work too. You could use the pic you submitted here and try various colors of paper to search for the best color that might compliment your room and the tapestry.
white wash it
I really like Janice's idea. Either paint it the wall color to have it blend in with the walls, or make it a statement piece on the wall with a different color that goes with your décor.
I love whitewashing in any color, to give it a nice clean appearance but with a little texture & depth
You can paint over it with a masonry paint.
OR you could build/have built a Large mantle. I think that wall is gorgeous. Once you have a mantle you could display some drift/beachwood and/or large pieces of shells and dried coral.
Paint it any color you want in masonry paint
Add colorful beach items, starfish, she is, driftwood. Just paint the items for a pops of color
Why not plaster over it and then put up tile?
