Fireplace Mantle?

Should I remove the cast stone white mantle and fill-in with the same stacked stone or leave it as-is?

  • Personally, I'm not a fan of it and would remove it. I would add a white mantle for contrast though.

You do need something between the TV and the fireplace. If you choose to keep it, I would paint it a color to better match your decor, the white just screams out.

If you choose to remove it, a natural wood mantle would look great.

Hi Eric, in my personal opinion the white is too stark against the earthy colors of the stone. Perhaps you can consider painting it black before you remove it.

Think a nice chunky wood mantel would look good instead.

Neither go together. I would remove the mantle and replace it with stacked stone. Add a chunky wood mantle shelf above the fireplace.

you could paint it or remove it and replace with a live edge piece of wood or old reclaimed wood

I agree that the mantle just isn't working there anymore and I like the idea of adding more stone. Maybe you could get a rustid wood mantle instead?

I like it the way it is but if you aren't happy with it, you change it. Maybe consider adding a wash to go from white to beige.

Before I went to the trouble of changing it all out, I would paint it in a color that matches the stone you have above.

  • It really depends on what your tastes are, quite honestly. You could remove it and add a big piece of wood or do a faux wood top. Try the search bar at the top left as I know there are loads of great mantle projects here on Hometalk.
