Your faux fireplace should look like it is real. So it should cover some of the front of the electric unit, and be deep enough to go to the wall enclosing whatever electrical sockets/cords needed. The mantel piece should extend over the front of the fireplace and also a little bit on the ends. You should also have a faux hearth.
