How do you paint a brick fireplace?
We just have a small surround on the front of our fireplace. I would like to paint the brick the same color as the wall above, but don't know if wall paint is appropriate.

I painted our corner fireplace 20 years ago and the paint I used has never flaked or peeled. First I gave it several coats of the oil based BIN and then painted it (several coats) to match my walls with Sherwin Williams Navajo White. We have a set of gas logs in the fireplace that we used for several winters as main heat in the living room and the paint is still going strong. I don't know if this would work if you plan on using the fireplace with an actual fire as soot may be deposited on the paint.
