This was really trash . Someone had this at a yardsale and this was to be thrown out since no one wanted it. I saw life in it still . It was solid cherry.
Someone had started stripping this poor little thing and gave up
This is what the top looked like
I started sanding by didn't want to remove too much wood.
I saw on Hometalk where someone had painted with stain so a lightbulb went off in my head.
These are pages from one of the new coloring books. I used my burning tool to do the outline on the table.
This is what it looked like after burning it thru the paper.
This is the design in the middle. I used various color stains and gold and silver painter markers.
First coat of Helmsman finish. I used black chalk paint on the side just to give it some pop
I spray painted the hardware.
This is the finished project. Up close it looks like inlaid wood.
Suggested materials:

Would the Helsman varnish hold up to having something hot set gown on it? I am looking for something to put on a dining table that will withstand hot bowls etc set on it. Without ruining rhe finish.
