Cheap Bookshelf gets a custom look with just using spare parts, CeCe Caldwells paints and some wheels.
I found this bookshelf on a curbside. I knew it had more potential than just being one more cheap MDF bookshelf.
This is what I started with. These can be found anywhere.
Turn the book shelf over and cut a piece of MDF to size of bottom. You can then screw in small legs or add casters.
The turn it right side up again. Look for scrap pieces of wood that are equal thickness. Arrange them like a puzzle piece on the top until you get the fit you like. Cut the pieces to fit evenly.
Use Gorilla Wood Glue to hold pieces in place before you secure them.
Use wood screws to hold top pieces in place.
Use scrap trim or moulding to cover the bottom and the wood you added for stability. Adding this decorative element adds a little more stability to your piece as well.
Paint the body of your bookshelf with a base color. (optional).
Add a top color and sealer. Follow these steps and you can have an expensive bookshelf made from spare parts and a cheap bookshelf in no time!
