Several years ago my daughter inherited my grandparent's telephone table. She asked me to refurbish it for her. I could not wait to get my hands on that table. I knew it was going to be fun seeing the transformation.
Pictured here is the table as it was when she got it.
Another view.
Time for the work to begin. We took a trip to the fabric store to pick out the fabric for the seat. My daughter loves all the colors of the sea and beach. In keeping with the theme of her home but, not taking away from the originality of the seat/table we set out on our trip.
Years of use were ever present on this treasure. I sanded down the entire table.
We chose white for our color. Her coffee table and end tables are white so, decided to follow that theme. I used Behr latex eggshell paint added chalk powder to make my own chalk paint. Much less expensive than chalk paint and is just as durable. Just remember once the paint is dry you want to protect it with a wax.
She wanted some distressing. Once the paint was dry, using fine sandpaper I went over the chair and gave it some distress marks.
I sealed it with 2 protective layers of Johnson's Paste Wax. It now sits in her living room. She is enjoying it and loves the fact that she has this treasure that once belonged to her great-grandparents.
