From Crates to Coffee

My daughter wanted to create this coffee table for her first apartment. Using crates from a local craft store, mounted on a square piece of particle board, little stain, screaming and casters...voila.
4 crates and we added 4 smaller crates for that valuable storage
Stain each box. We used a warm walnut.
Screw boxes together leaving the center hollow.
Screw to base. Flip over, add casters.
And add smaller crates inside.
And they made a mini version which we added Moss and succulents for a cute little centerpiece for another area of the room
Great project and so fun she made her own table. They signed the bottom and dated their creation.

Love it! I've been looking at making one of these for a while now. How sturdy is it? Will it collapse if someone sits on it? I can imagine my DGKs having a field day with this table.

My husband and I are looking in to making one of these coffee tables. I keep checking Michael's and JoAnn's for the crates, but they just don't seem that sturdy! Where did you purchase your crates from?
