Tires offer a lot of possibilities to be reused. In this case, we bring you a project with cloth that turns them into beautiful stools to decorate any of the rooms in your house.

WHAT DO YOU NEED?

 Tools

  •  T-shirt yarn needle
  •  Brush
  •  Cutter
  •  Flexometer
  •  Stapler
  •  Pencil
  •  keyhole saw
  •  Drill
  •  Pair of scissors

 Materials

  •  Braided canvas
  •  Recycled tire
  •  Legs
  •  Wooden board
  •  Burlap fabric
  •  Nuts and bolts
  •  Trapillo

HOW TO MAKE A STOOL WITH A WHEEL

1. Clean the tire

Begin by thoroughly cleaning the tire to remove any dust or grease it may have. To do this, use a stiff bristle brush first and a water scouring pad afterward.

2. Create the wooden base

To transform your tire into a round stool, cut a circular wooden base that, attached to the wheel, serves to fix the legs and give stability to the structure.

Cut a circumference in a MDF board the diameter of the tire you are going to use. To make sure that the figure is perfect, you can use a wooden strip as a compass, as we have done. Screw a strip to the center of the board and make a hole through which you can for a pencil at a distance from that point equal to the radius of the circle you want to create. Then turn the ribbon and trace the circumference.

Once the base is drawn on the board, cut it with a jigsaw and sand the edges so that they are smooth and without imperfections.

3. Attach the legs and attach the base to the tire

Place the four legs of your stool on the circular base, defining where each one will be placed and marking the center of each leg with a pencil. Then, drill those points with a drill.

We have used ready-made legs. However, you can be encouraged to make your own, with 4 square wooden slats and 4 screws and nuts.

Next, place the wooden base on the tire and make the marks of the holes with a screwdriver, so that they coincide with those of the wood. Then, drill these four points again with the help of a drill.

Once you have perforated both the wood and the tire, proceed to place the legs of your stool, crossing both surfaces.

4. Prepare the seat

To create the seat of the stool, use some braided or raffia canvas to cover the tire gap and cover it with burlap fabric to fine-tune the finish.

Take a large piece of canvas and draw a circumference of a size that will cover the entire tire, then cut it with scissors. Next, take the burlap fabric and cut a circumference the same size as the canvas.

Lay the braided tarp over the tire and secure it using a stapler. After this, staple the second circumference of burlap fabric on top.

5. Weave the fabric

Now you just have to weave the fabric that will cover and fill the sides of the tire with life. This process can be the most laborious of all, or at least the one that requires the most patience. And it is that, although the cloth is easy to manipulate, if you do not know how to knit, you will have to practice a little before. The idea is to get a band of fabric that surrounds the tire and covers its entire width. To do this, you will need the fabric of the color of your choice and a special needle to knit this type of material.

The first line of the work consists of a single chain. The number of stitches you knit on this first line is very important, as it will determine the width of the piece. The more stitches you knit in this chain, the more surface you can cover.

Make an additional stitch at the end of the chain, which will help you continue on the next line. Turn the piece over, and continue knitting. From the second line on, use the basic point. At the end of each line, remember to add an extra chain stitch, before turning the piece.

In our project we used a small motorcycle tire and made a chain of 14 points (plus an additional one to connect with the second line). You should adjust the number of links to the size of the tire you use.

5. Place the cloth

Once you have woven a piece of cloth as long as the perimeter of the base of your round stool, place it around the tire, joining the ends, interlacing the cloth and securing it with a knot.

Clever! You have finished your round stool or puff, and you can place it anywhere in your home, giving it a unique and personal touch. What do you think of this idea?

What is the product you used to crochet the woven exterior and where can one purchase it?

It looks great! There are a lot of neat things you can make using tires. One thing I’m curious about, do you notice a rubber odor in the house? Either way, I really like your project.

I think I’d be tempted to pad the top for more comfort.
