How do I hang a flat screen tv on a wall without studs?

I want to hang out tv above the closet, which I dont think the top of the wall has studs. Can I somehow reinforce the wall so I can mount a tv mounting system for a 44" tv?

Walls above closets usually have vertical studs between the header above the doorway and the ceiling. This is in usual stick built homes. Tapping in wallboard may help find the solid sound of taps over the studs. A small finishing nail into wall can show where edges and center between are. An extra hole or two behind the mount bracket will be hidden.Possibly could use a piece of 1/2 inch plywood attached with long screws through wallboard at the top near ceiling and on header above door? Wallboard / drywall is not really strong enough to support a TV bracket with TV itself

Son tried hanging tv on wall without studsl. Nothing worked so put it on a console. Wouldn't your tv over a closet be too high for comfortable viewing?

Watching tv in bed, I am a back sleeper.

      Thanks for the concerns.

The better solution might be a floor stand, they come in a variety of heights and styles, some hide behind furniture easily.

Not sure how large the TV is but a series of 75lb anchors and a support “ledge” using the top of the doorframe and may work.
