Corner fireplaces are one of the most frustrating decor items that builders are continuing to put into floor plans.

My first question is how much do you actually use the fireplace as a heat source?

If you answered hardly ever, then the best solution to the dilemma may be to first remove the fireplace completely.

Please post a picture so we can see what sort of space around the fireplace you have to work with, and where the closest doors are to the corner.

Could you share a few photos of the room? That will help us help you! :)

  • Your question depends on your style. Have a look at a furniture store to see what you like - colors/patterns. A sectional does offer a lot of seating.

A picture will let us see what you are seeing, and that is the help we need from you. That will also give an idea of your decor, where the windows are and other openings to the room. If you are using the fireplace as a heat source or an entertainment room, the furniture should support that.

I have a corner fireplace and thought about a sectional but changed my mind once we cleaned out the room and placed (or tried to) where a sectional would go. I ended up purchasing 2 sofas with built in recliners and I'm so glad I did. They can be placed similar to a sectional but also at Christmas and other times we can move them around to face each other.

I have a corner fireplace and it is a real pain to decorate around. I also have a large hearth. I am fortunate that I have a bar height countertop which is part of my kitchen with granite next to the fire place. So instead of bar stools, I placed a queen and recliner which looks like a regular chair in that spot. I would love to take the fireplace out but the expense is much too high. I even thought of taking the Hearth off, but then I would have to get a different wood floor. If you do not use your fireplace I would put a sectional sofa in front.

You could fill the firebox with AV equipment on shelves and abandon the FP.

If you're ever going to sell the house, I would not remove the hearth- that's Code violation.

it depends on your wall colors, flooring, etc. without photos it is hard for us to know what might look well in that room - take measurements and then look at sectional sofas, etc to see if they will fit around the fireplace - there are many sites you can go to and download a photo of your room and see how furniture will look in your own setting

  • I'd go with neutral colors for the furniture, just because you can change the look and feel with throw blankets and pillows over time/seasons. A lighter color will brighten up the room, but you may not want to go too bright if you have kids or find a fabric for the couch that is resistant to stains. I would need to see a photo of the room to determine how the couches/furniture should be placed.

You will get a lot more seating if you put your sofas and/or chairs square with a coffee table in the middle. Space it back far enough so that you can still enjoy your fireplace. Best thing to do is keep moving the furniture around until you get the desired look.

Hi! Neutral color furniture is usually the best way to go, since you can update with new pillows or throws. Unless you like to look at the fireplace, how would you decorate the room if it wasn't there?

  • It kind of depends on how much of a focal point you want the fireplace to be and how often you use it. Too, how you use the room and the traffic patterns through it are key to determining how best to arrange. It might take a few revisions of moving things, but I think that's fun.
