I had 2 of these old chairs for a few years which I had picked up for a years sale once ... I thought so long and hard about how I wanted to do this and here is what I came up with . I hope you enjoy this as much as I did :)

Started with a old chair, I did consider just recovering it to freshen it up but then though what the heck let’s go for a whole make over so I started with a light rub back of the wood with sandpaper and I removed the materiel on the chair seat part which i found underneath was another layer from someone in the past who must have already recovered I did leave the under layer however as it wasn’t in bad shape and wouldn’t effect what I doing
These are some of the tools/ materials I needed as well as paint paintbrush and sandpaper
After a light sand I painted 1 coat of the acrylic paint and waited about 1 hour for it dry before adding a 2nd coat
Once 2nd coat was on I waited another hour as it was very hot here this time of year In Australia I really didn’t have to wait lonG before I took my sandpaper and roughed up areas to give an aged worn . Look
Exposing some of the old wood underneath really brings out the detail In the wood and makes it look old and worn the next day I did put a Matt spray sealer
I then used about 80cm of fabric and layed it on the seat area and gradually worked my way around using a staple gun to attach I folded a neat edged and tucked any extra before stapling so I had a nice neat edge all the way around and it would also stop any fraying I hope
as you can see here were I had stapled to secure the fabic . down the track I might add some thin lace edging to hide the staples but for now it’s not noticeable to anyone but me
so here so the end result I love this so much it’s turned out very pretty and now takes pride in a place which was once just a blank corner space would also be perfect for a bedroom :)
Here is all the same e steps but this one was done in chalkboard paint (not chalk paint ) a reverse pair

Love the fabric, did you buy it in Oz?

Did you paint black acrylic first and then white acrylic and then sand over high spots. How does the black paint stay in the grooves - I'm confused

I think the natural wood of the chair is lovely too. Would be a nice update just to reupholster with new fabric. Beautiful fabric that you used here tho.

I love the brown chair. I don’t understand distressing. I would just go to a thrift store, pick out an aged chair, clean it up and bam!..authentic shabby chic! Lol. To each their own! 😊
