my kitchen is not that big. originally I was going to hang pendants over a counter with a passthrough but fixtures I chose are way to big. So I am going with plan B......going farmhouse style and wanted to hang a rectangular chandelier in the center of kitchen without counter or island under it. there is a vaulted ceiling in the kitchen. here is the link to home depot it is the Briarwood 38" https://www.homedepot.com/p/Progress-Lighting-Briarwood-38-in-5-Light-Graphite-Chandelier-P400048-143/302701078Not sure if it will work. I think I might just be able to pull it off. Please let me know asap as my electricians are coming back this week to do the electrical work. forenza.lady@yahoo.com

Hi there, I think you could pull it off. Love the chandelier. I am usually not found of them but I really like this one.

Hi , I also have a small kitchen , that I did in a sort of farmhouse style , mine is vintage cottage .I also have a pass through . I looked at what you picked and really like it . But , what you need to consider is how much light you need in the kitchen . These lights will be fine if you already have enough lighting in you prep area , over the sink & above the stove . If this will be the major source of light , then it probably won't work . I am only saying this out of experience , in my apartment I had 2 overhead lights one over the dining side the other in the middle of the kitchen side .

I did not have over the sink or stove lighting , it was a constant struggle , because I was always throwing a shadow over whatever I was trying to do , wash dishes , food prep or cook on the stove . Now in my house , I put up a ceiling fan with light in the kitchen , but I have light over the sink and stove , 3 Windows and a 4 light ( Edison bulbs) over the table at the pass through . Please post a picture of your finished kitchen !

Thanks Pamela! There is another one just like it that is 20x20" which I have a feeling the size will work much better as the kitchen is not that big. I only have one window which I think is 34 or 36" over the kitchen sink. I have a small pendant to hang over the sink, but I'm afraid it is going to compete with the chandelier I have picked out. There is another one that is 20x20", but still worried about competition! If I do the 20x20 I may have to go with something that has clear glass on it and not much of anything else. If I was computer savvy I would have posted a picture of the kitchen!

Unless the chandelier emits sufficient light spread, you may need another light over sink, etc., to avoid shadows.

    Hi, Jane,

It's unlikely you'd have too many lights in a kitchen. Think of needing a light over the sink, under your upper cabinetry to light counters for baking/food prep, over an island (usually done in groups of three, or a very long light, to adequately light the entire island), a ceiling fan with up and down lights, to move excessive kitchen heat when cooking, or to circulate warm air down to floor level in the winter, and lights shining on contents of upper cabinet spaces, as well as to light dark areas in lower cabinets/islands.

Your stove hood should have halogen lights so there are no shadows when cooking.

If you want to highlight ceiling or floor areas, you can install rope lighting.
