No you would have to install a steel beam or laminated engineered beam to carry the weight. I would get a consult with a building engineer.

Oh, boy, this is not a job you'd want to take on yourself. You would need to get a replacement, engineered beam, wood or a metal I beam that ran the whole length of the room, depending on how the rafters are placed in your structure so that the long beam would rest on two load-bearing walls. I've seen the beams alone cost $3000, not to mention opening up the walls and ceiling to install it, the re-sheet rocking and painting again after. It's like adding to the backbone of your house. These beams can take 8 guys to lift into place and secure. The clips you mentioned aren't really secure, depending what part of the world you're living in. Do you have hurricanes, earthquakes, high winds or snow-load ? People on here prob.have lots of ideas to make living with that pole more attractive than this alternative. Maybe surround it with a tall bookcase or cabinet?

You really need to consult a professional if it is carrying the roof or attic DONOT REMOVE

Maybe boxing it in and keeping or you will have to put in a Header from wall to Wall usually about 2 k

Depending on how large around the pole is you could leave it and hang plants from it.
