It really depends on your room layout. How many blank walls? How many windows? Where is the cable for your TV located? Do you have one wall that is mostly windows, because the couch is supposed to go in front of those, it is a sofa window. Here are some pics of living room layouts for inspiration:

I would do as open as possible..a pic of your livingroom would help..declutter the area..
