I'm having my 6-seater sectional re-upholstered in plain dark grey upholstery material. How do I style the L-shaped couch with new cushions/how many cushions/patterns/textures/etc. Is it a good idea to use patterned "upholstery material" for the scatter cushions, or should I bring in different textures? The colors of my rug and artwork is red/orange/cream. Advise please.

Please do post a picture! Your description is detailed and appreciated - the look/size, etc in a photo will be worth 1000 words! Furniture is not just about the furniture, its about the surroundings -- the flow!

vary the sizes of the pillows as well as the fabric.... when mixing patterns don't use all the same scale.... example... use a large geometric with a small floral and a textured color.... not all large prints or all small prints.... If it were mine I'd throw three pillows in the L (maybe a large, medium square with a smaller different shape...rectangle or roll) and put a large pillow on the ends???? but it does depend on what else you got going on........

Red or cream pillows would be pretty. A red throw blanket laid on sofa would add snap.
