Too many possibilities... Picture frame collage, Favorite saying?? Don't know how you use the room and if there are restrictions with space for a piece of furniture etc...

what about a wall unit that holds tv or stereo and has book cases in it good luck

What if you took some trim and made panels? You could make them of any sizes you like. You could even put up a chair rail and do moldings below that. Then you could do a slightly darker color inside the panels, or a faux finish of some kind, or even wallpaper. Really adds a lot of interest to a big, blank wall!

@Samanthaburkard not sure of the layout of the room or what your tastes are or budgetary restrictions, but the first thing to do is to make sure you have your furniture placement in a way that is functional and pleasing to the eye. Check out this search of ht for various types of wall treatments - http://www.hometalk.com/search/posts?filter=wall+decor - lots of ideas there. When I try to decorate a room, it usually takes me a couple of years because I don't like to pay full price. I have found shopping clearance areas in stores such as homesense, target etc. makes it more economical. Also look at items that can be used in a different way than intended. If it is a piece not the right colour ask yourself if it can be painted. Don't forget to accessorize with cushions and throws that will accent your colours. Do update us with pics of what you do :)

Not sure of the function of the room. A large mirror with a couple side sconces. If you like plants, you could use some fake ivy to run around the mirror and/or sconces.

I wanted something different for a staircase wall and was inspired by a wall of different sized mirrors that I saw at an antique store. the majority of them are unique in design. To get some continuity I used mostly gold framed ones, and bought a nice shade of gold craft paint at Hobby Lobby to use on the rest. It would work well on a big blank wall. It also reflects light nicely!

Samantha, please tell us how you use the room; generally your budget as far as zero budget to unlimited; do you like contemporary, traditional, transitional? Do you have kids? I see wood floors. Is your couch brown? Everyone has posted such great ideas! Knowing a little about the room will help us give more suggestions.

A collection of different size and shape baskets is a great way to decorate a large blank wall inexpensively.

I have the perfect idea! Using painters tape tape a straight piece of tape from one end of the wall to next about 1/4 down from the top of the wall. Then tape another long piece of tape about 18" down from the first row of tape. Put a old sock on your hand and make sure you rub both stripes of tape down good. Now paint inside the lines of both tape stripes the same color as your sofa (if its black, even better!). Order a wall tattoo of you family name, one 16" Capital letter of the first letter of your last name "A" and the words "the aburkard family" in all lower case letters (order from Belvedere Wall Quotes 1-855-978-6837 and check out the website). Remove tape while the paint is wet. Once it drys the paint will look like a wide piece of tape itself with your name in the center of it. I did this in my media room and everyone that visits touches it because its hard to understand how the lettering is done (there's no plastic around the letters, it look like I painted it). I don't know how to attach pictures sorry. Good Luck

By the looks of your sofa, you may have a modern style going on. I have great luck finding large canvas art at IKEA. If not one large then try three black frames w/ white mattes around black and white prints inside. A timeless look and easy. Hang just above eye level (I am 5'6"). Good luck.

Find a beautiful fabric that you love and stretch and staple over 3 large canvases to make a triptych. The canvases can be purchased quite cheaply at dollar stores and as far as tools are concerned, all you will need is a staple gun heavy enough to get the staples into the frames. If you put a dresser or console under the pictures and put some decorative knick knacks on the top that will help tie the look together.

Absolutely perfect for a full-sized wall mural.

We are partial to wall murals ourselves. And you can easily create one with wall decals or stencil your own. If you want to make a really bold statement, you can try a patterned mural.

What about an attractive map? A world map maybe or an antique map.
  • Karen McNulty Karen McNulty on Dec 11, 2013
If that room is a large rectangle I would move the couch to that wall then hang some artwork over the couch, this would help you choice a color for the wall , although the blue is nice. keep the color of your furniture earthy and natural ,just one color. I can see that it is mostly brown. Find a more dark brown, maybe paint some of the tables? and find a great throw blanket to incorporate the colors.

EVERYBODY has such great ideas! You must be overwhelmed at this point. Carole's idea is easy and budget friendly, and one I have done many times when budget conscious. You can even cover an old picture you no longer like with the fabric. Grouping them in 3's is a beautiful look, and you can use coordinating fabric; doesn't all have to be the same. Marlene mentioned the map and that is a great way to fill a wall and it looks so nice and matches most colors and styles. You can also cut the map in 3 sections and cover canvas with the map, hang them fairly close to each other on the wall. Also, I have a collection of old calendars and I cut out photos from those and frame them to create a collage on the wall. And as someone said, you can never go wrong with a large mirror! Whatever you choose to do, please post a picture so we can see!

You could take a few 24x24 inches decorative faux tin ceiing tiles and frame them in shadow boxes and display them as wall art. www.deborahdesigns.net

You can buy stencils (very budget friendly) and do a pattern on the entire wall in a complimentary color............or if you like in a contrasting color...........either way it will have major impact

You can buy large murals from paint stores, some are 3d and very beautiful! it would make the room look even bigger, you could get the one where it looks like your walking out to the ocean! You hang them like 5 pieces of wallpaper.

How about some Shelf units for Storage - most are only 12 to14 inches Deep.. Book shelves with Cupboards below and you can put several on that wall for Lots of Storage, for Books, photos, Glass ware , Games in the Cupboards below etc.. or if you just want something to hang on the Wall how about a Large Quilted Wall hanging, Groups of family pictures etc.. or several smaller long shelves on the wall..

Here's my 2 cents...Not sure what your style is so I don't know if this will fit...However, you could do industrial style book shelves. Measure out on the wall how long & how high you want the book shelves. Then take measurements for any open spaces such as TV or other items. You can go to Home Depot or Lowe's & have them cut & thread the piping you need & the wood planks you will need, They can also help you out w/ the fittings you need. Bring it home & assemble. You can paint or stain the wood planks.

I feel that every room should have a tall piece of furniture. That could be your wall for it. Fill in with artwork and/or mirrors.

I would put a wall size map. They usually have a lot of color, or you could probably order an antiqued map. I ordered one and it is 8' 10" X 6'2" and it cost around $100 CAN and comes in 4 pieces, and it is like a wall paper. I ordered it for our dining room to follow world events, but my husband vetoed the idea. So it waits.....

If you have a large piece of art from another location that you can't use, try covering it with fabric or repainting it!

You can have a wall frame or a traditional tapestry that will give it a stunning look. I have also added a traditional tapestry to my bedroom wall. https://www.rajrang.com/home-decor/wall-decor/tapestry.html
