Need advice on coffee table for family room

We have a dark brown leather sectional (rounded middle/curve), a console table that is the different colored (painted) reclaimed wood and iron as well as a tall cabinet that matches the table. What would you suggest for the coffee table? I don't want to match too much and I am afraid of glass (maintenance and wear/tear) because of our young kiddos. TIA!

Am a bit confused. The pic looks like a bookcase. Am assuming you are laying it on its other side. Plexiglass would be a good alternative if you have kids. You could do the top green tone or blue tone or a combo for a change in the theme.

@Meghan A I don't think you have to be matchy matchy for the furniture, eclectic can be very interesting and cozy too. You do have a theme of re-purposed wood so you could look at pallet tables in the search bar. Or perhaps something with wrought iron and ceramic (not as bad for finger prints).

Wow, Meghan-love those two pieces! Perhaps something lighter for the coffee table, since the other three pieces are so dark? Your other pieces are quite rustic and heavy, maybe something a little softer for contrast. If you chose one of the colors from the cabinet as your accent color, like that soft aqua blue or even the creamy white, you could use that for your coffee table and perhaps some pillows/throws as your pops of color. You can always find coffee tables on Craigslist or at your local Salvation Army for cheap to paint-any style will do, paint will tie everything together.

The sky's the limit but how about a nice big ottoman with a large tray on top? This would give you some softness and you could choose any color of upholstery that you like. There are even DIY tutorials if you're ambitious that way. I've seen them with bottom shelves that would give you storage, some even have drawers. And no sharp corners for the kiddos! Here are some examples: (I've also thrown in a wood table that has baskets for storage, which I think is nice for some added texture, since your sofa is leather and your furniture is wood, the rattan also adds softness).

Who says what height a coffee table must be. You could put either table on rollers and move to needed spot, much like an English tea service cart. I certainly love the industrial look of table 2. Of the 2 offered as ideas, I really like that look. Paint can go tooo far and run the peaceful look of the item. Somehow I know you will make the right decision. Your taste is great.
