We had an open space next to our refrigerator, and I really wanted to hang our calendar there. I didn't want to spend a lot of money, so I headed to Michael's with my coupons and to Dollar Tree. This is in a high traffic area, so it's easy for us to look at the calendar to remember what our schedule looks like. The chalkboard is great for reminders, but to be honest my kids just like to doodle on it. Lol.
Hang your calender first. That way, it's at eye level. I like to think of it like the centerpiece of the command center.
Hang a hook directly under the calendar, to hang a chalkboard or dry erase board. Im using Command Hooks so I don't need to drill any holes.

Side Note- You could also use a stick on chalkboard. I found one from the dollar store for $1!
Hang your chalkboard or white board. I had to adjust the string, so it wouldnt hang so low.

(I also sanded the edges of the chalkboard for a Fixer Upper feel. The video shows how)
Add other decor. I chose this mini chalkboard to fill in space.
Have space up high? Add a photo, painting, or decal. Since this is in a high traffic area in my house, and I did not want to make any nail holes, I chose a decal. I got this one from Dollar Tree.
Hang your pen. I used twine, so that it would match the aesthetic of the chalkboard (which is also hung with twine)

(I was going to use a small Dollar Tree basket wrapped in twine, but it did not work well in such a high traffic area.)
Add a small drawing bag for your chalk. There are so many options, but we chose the bag that we already had. A canvas bag would work perfectly.
I love the way this turned out. You can spend just a few dollars, or $20. An inexpensive update is always my favorite kind of update.
