Repurposed Magnetic Board With Modern Masters Metal Effects

When I was given the opportunity to try Modern Masters Metal Effects paints, it was a toss up between the rusty patina and the blue aged patina. I went with the blue because, let's face it, my garage is full of rusty stuff already! I'm so happy I tried it out on this project, where I took an old metal industrial shelf and created a framed magnetic board. I love the aged patina look on this piece!
The guys I work for recently brought in a bunch of old industrial shelves to use in our shop. They know how much I love rusty pieces of junk so they gave me a few to use. I decided to use one to make a framed magnetic board. Using Modern Masters Metal Effects, I created this wonderful new piece for my kitchen!
After cleaning the shelf, I painted 2 coats of the primer on it and let it dry for 12 hours.
Once the primer is completely dry, the next step is to add the Reactive Paint. In this case, I used the Bronze Reactive Paint. here it is after one coat. After adding a second coat, and while the paint is still wet, I put the spritzer cap on the Blue Aging Solution and sprayed it generously onto the wet bronze paint.
This is the result after drying. A wonderful aged patina all over the board!
The patina is so genuine it looks like it's naturally aged this way!
As you can see, I framed the magnetic shelf out with some 2x2 boards and I added a few rusty magnets and a small rusty hook onto the bottom. I'm in love with my new magnetic board! It's the perfect fit for this wall in between my cupboard and my sliding glass door. And the blue patina is fantastic!
