Why You Should Have A Command Center

Easy
Do you find receipts all over your house? Keep misplacing your keys, chargers, scissors? Where's that pen when you need one? Find out why and how this is a great way to keep not only you, but your entire family more organized. It's even more critical to have a command center when your children are running in every direction to their sports or dance practices.
Usually a Command Center is located in the kitchen, because we know that's the heart of the home. But it can be located in an entry, mudroom, hallway or even a cupboard. To make it effective, it needs to be in a location that everyone goes by on a regular basis.
Every command center should be geared for YOUR OWN FAMILY. We have a bulletin board in ours to hang a calendar and pin notices to. But you may want a large whiteboard as a calendar to list all the game practices, dental appointments, after school meetings, etc. If nothing else, a command center will help make sure you keep all important notices, dates and appointments in one place so you won't miss going to them.
Because we only have two people in our house, we have one small basket with files. But many command centers have a basket or container for every member of the family. If you have children in school, you want to make sure you see all the notices that come home with them and make sure the kids have their papers to take back to school the next day.
For our purpose, I have a file where I throw all my receipts until I'm sure I'll no longer need them, a folder for takeout menus, one for info on the computer, misc. and clippings. You may want one for incoming mail until you can open and go through everything.
Because our command center is all on a vertical wall in our kitchen, just a couple feet away I have a tray that holds a basket for my husband's receipts, all our pens, pencils and scissors,as well as the chalk and the eraser for our chalkboard. You can see other ideas for command centers and read more about this on my blog.
