Bill Organizer Update

I never pass up anything made of wood at the thrift store if it's cheap... this piece was no exception... but how to make it a little more interesting...
This is the finished desk organizer. I wanted it to be fun and something my 8 year old son could use to organize his things for homeschooling.
I think I paid about $2 or $3 for this. I love that it had a little drawer at the bottom. As I have recently found out it is a bill organizer. The wood slats were a little warped and one was missing, but it was still a great bargain.
When I went through my stash of scrapbook paper I found these that I had bought at Tuesday morning for a couple of bucks. It was extra thick and the perfect width to fit in the top opening.
Once the slats were out, I painted the outer edges and front in some complimentary colors. Using Mod Podge, I adhered the paper to the top back and then used an exacto knife to trim the excess on the front. I glued two of the wood slats together to create a divider and covered it with the same paper.
I think it's much more fun and useful now and my son loves it. It's amazing what some paper and paint can do to transform an item.
