The first thing you have to do is sort it all out. Put similar things together (like all screwdrivers), the put things that are used together next to each other, (like sanders & sandpapers). Once you have everything sorted you'll need to figure out where you want to put everything. Do you have a work bench? Are your tools in cases? You can then figure out how to store them. you can use shelves, hooks, hanging strips or anything else you like. It just depends on what you have and how much room is available. Don't forget hanging somethings from the ceiling if that is a good solution. Wishing you the best.

Tall tools we put in a large barrel to stand up for quick use. Small tools we put on hooks on a peg board, with a white line drawn around the tool so we know where it goes or the kids know where it goes if they forget. Our motto is "a place for everything and everything in its place." Hope this helps. Also our cutting tools such as pruning shears, clippers, etc we stick in a box of sand that has a light amount of oil mixed in to help prevent rust. The oil was from part of old oil out of the car when the oil was changed. Just a cup or so. If you do not do your own car, you can ask your mechanic to let you have a cup or so and take a container to carry it home. They will oblige you probably. They send it back for recycling many times but a cup or so is not so much to ask.

It really depends on what tools you have... and how you want to use your garage... ours is more shop than garage... we have a number of 4 drawer file cabinets... my husband has started using the drawers to store his small power tools along with their accessories.... circular saw with its blades, saber saw, and blades, 4 inch grinders with the pads, wire brushes, etc. Clamps and such are hung higher on the walls on 1X4 boards between studs.. and there is ALWAYS pegboard... there are more accessories for it than the hooks!
