I had a small open cupboard in my kitchen and I always knew it was missing something. I was challenged by some DIY friends to come up with a small space project and knew this was the perfect space for it!

I began with a piece of plywood I had on hand. I cut it to size for the cupboard opening, essentially a large rectangle. I did this by measuring the inside dimensions.

I then sanded the edges and nailed it together.

It fit absolutely perfectly and all it needed was slanted shelves added for wine storage.

I cut the slant with the mitre saw and cut two pieces.

I adjusted the slant to fit the built piece.

Once I got the perfect fit with the slanted shelves, I nailed them in place. This allowed for maximum bottle storage but it still looked interesting.

I applied some stain with a brush and wiped off the access with a rag. I used a mix of walnut and early American for a rich colour.

It turned out better than I had hoped for and was so easy.

Nice use of weird space. Your take certainly is a springboard of inspiration for others. My question why was it there in first place? You think builder didn’t notice it too cheap to make right. But you made it right.
