Declutter With a Mailbox

How many of you hate mail lying all over the place? I like to have a defined space for things to keep my life orderly. Here's an easy project I created for my home to handle our mail.

I started off with a wooden crate that I purchased at a thrift store, lightweight and boring but it'll work.

I found this inspiring print in my painting book, notice the mail under the wings? At this moment the wheels in my head speed up...I can visualize the finished look at this point!

Since the background of the picture was black I painted the entire box black as well with a water based household paint I already had.

I didn't want this to be another welcome accent, it was going to be a Mailbox! I carefully cut the heart out of the picture to come up with something else for the center.

Since I would be decoupaging the picture on the front of the box, I needed the center to stand out in contrast to all of the surrounding black color. Using the heart piece I cut out as rough guide I painted a silver heart on the box with toll paint.

Picture all set in place with mod podge and a few extra coats to seal it. Then I glued in place these scrapbooking letters I had to define the purpose of the box....Mail!

There it sits all pretty on my countertop to hold incoming or outgoing mail! I simply love that it keeps things all neatly in a box! Hope you were inspired to make one of your own!
