DIY Towel Rack From an Old Shutter

When we redecorated our bathroom I really wanted to update the towel rack from the cheap, old, outdated towel rack, to something fun and more our style. I really like old shutters and I thought it would be fun to take a shutter and turn it into a DIY towel rack.
I used a plastic shutter but I thought it looked cool, and I think plastic is better for a steamy bathroom anyways. The first thing I did was clean the shutter with the Enviro Cloth to clean off years of dirt, grime and cobwebs.
I measured and drilled holes for the knoebs that I used as hooks.
I also had to add hook on the back to hang it.
As you can see there is a BIG difference! Plain towel rack. Unique towel rack!

I love the knobs. Thanks for sharing.

These knobs appear to be quite shallow in their depth, resulting in not much space for the towel to hang on to. If you find that that your towels are too heavy or too thick to stay hung up,or are sliding off the round knobs, there are two easy solutions:

1/ Insert a spacer the same color as the shutter in-between the knob and the shutter. It looks as though you have adequate screw length left to have it fit through the spacer and still anchor the knob.

2/ Sew small ribbon loops on to your towels, large enough to just fit over the knobs.
