Once upon a time, I lived in a 100 yr. old house in Mazatlan, Mexico. People there tend to buy their food daily, instead of shopping for an entire week or 2, so there is no need for a lot of cabinet space, unless you are a transplanted American! I had a small area under a counter overhang that was really just wasted space. I decided to hang a rod with "S" hooks to hand my pots and pans, and I used a hotel style towel rack for the pot lids. If you have limited space, or need a place for pots or lids or both, this works out great! You could put them inside a cabinet, as well, if you have a one!

I used a tension type short shower curtain rod, but you could use a curtain rod, as well, for the pots and pans. I bought large "S" hooks at a hardware store and found the hotel style towel rack at Walmart in Mazatlan. Many people have done variations on the pot rack, but the lid rack was a genius idea of my husband's. It holds every size lid imaginable in a very small place.

Hotel style towel rack.

Lids fit perfectly! The angle of the photo makes it looks like it's leaning down, but it's not. It's perfectly level.

As you can see, this is under a counter overhang, but you could put it anywhere. I did not have a cabinet large enough to hold my pots and pans, so this worked for me.
