What's the best way to store this Christmas candy?

My husband loves this hard candy at Christmas. As soon as we open the bag and put it in a jar, it sticks together. Is there a way to store this candy without it becoming one big lump?

according to this you sprinkle granulated sugar on it and keep in an air tight container

I purchased a pack of food safe desiccant packs from Amazon.com for this same purpose! (You know, like the little packs you find in medicine bottles.) They really seem to help.

My mom used to sprinkle a little corn starch on them then shake them in a colander to remove the excess. Does not change the taste.

    Confectioners sugar would also work

Does it do this also in a different jar? Otherwise the jar your using might not be sealed tight enough to keep out moisture in the air.

A sprinkle of powdered sugar will help also.

I colour rice with food colour, makes it look festive, and put it in the bottom of a tight fitting jar. It works on the same principal as when an electronic device gets wet. The rice absorbs the moisture that makes the candy stick together. Happy holidays!

Put a little convection sugar or icing sugar in the candy dish or jar it will help the candies from sticking together

I know this isn't actually helpful, but instantly when I saw your question I thought " that's easy " I'd have no bother storing them because I'd be storing them in my stomach..

    Happy Christmas.

Just out of curiosity, to everyone who said to use powdered sugar - what's the science behind that? Why does it help?

There is corn starch in powdered sugar/confectioner's sugar/icing sugar...it absorbs the moisture....as a kid I thought half the fun of those candies was them sticking together lol...mom said one candy..if it happens to have 4 more stuck to it it is not my fault I took too many lol

  • I store it in the refrigerator or freezer

My grandmother always stored this type of candy in a tin with a tight lid.

My mother used to buy these candies and just like you said, they would soon turn into one giant clump of candy. I think the best option may be to put them into a freezer bag, squeeze out all of the air and lay the bag flat in the freezer until they are hard so that they don't stick together. Please update us to let us know what method you used and how it went. Good luck!

My mom used to individually wrap them in clear plastic wrap.
