I would use risers/stacking units to increase space since you can't move over, move up!

Do you have a wall between your kitchen and another room that can be made into a half wall where you can build a countertop on....like a service counter in a diner?

Add shelves to the walls or counters to double the space.

Do you have room for a free standing island unit?

Have so many cupboards and pantry already , plus a microwave shelf but very little counter top space to prep food on,makes it hard to bake with only about 5 feet of usable counter top.

no, it is totally open, i wish i had then i could put in another counter top.

Do you have cutting boards..is that what they are called, that pull out. We forgot to include one when redesigning our kitchen, that extra flat space sure would come in handy. Would a rolling cart with counter be feasible? I also have a piece of countertop that can span my sink.

Have already purchased a island which has a counter top, two drawers on each side plus a wine rack on each side, two center baskets where I keep my baking utensils and two shelves on either side which is great for keeping my food processor and mix master, this is what I am currently using to bake on but it just isn't enough space. I don't have extra space for a center island and don't want to use my dinning table top for food prep. I already have plenty of pull out cutting boards.

So can you move the island over temporarily to line up with cutting boards to extend your counter space...temporarily? I feel your frustration..truly I do. We just spent 25000 on remodeling and enlarging our kitchen and due to space ..it still doesn’t work efficiently.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, it seems like I will have to deal with it as is, not much point in moving house at our ages being in our mid seventies. Our latest reno cost us 20000, so really don't want to spend more.

I totally understand and agree..I am sure you will figure something out ...someday....or not. After 2 years of not being happy with my remodel of kitchen..I am finally putting everything back where it was originally planned..and live with it! Until I bump my head on a cabinet door ..or burn myself on stove too close to sink! Houses built in 60’s have a different view of what’s important now! 🥴🤗

    Hi, Linda,

I'm just now reading your query.

Given that you have no walls on which to hang another counter, do you have space for another table with two drop leaves that can be used as needed, yet folded down to a small size (12-24" )when not in use?
