Without seeing a photo, I would:
1. Go through everything you have and throw away anything that is outdated and you haven't used in a year or longer
2. I would gather as many boxes/tins/storage units as you have and sort them by size
3. Organize what you have by type of object and how often you use it
4. Place items in boxes based on size of box and where it is going.
5. Arrange boxes on shelves, in cabinets, and closets
Declutter, clean, put like items together, most used items in easy access areas, use cheap dollar store plastic containers to organize.

Keep things off the counter by utilizing wall space. We have a couple of rods on the wall that we hang pans and utensils from and it definitely clears up the space.
