Try some open shelving on wall use for anything that is taking up space on your counter.
We down sized to a very small home and i found my countertop space very limited. I built a portable island on wheels from a discarded cabinet. I don't know if this idea would help you since you have an island. It did give me much more counter top though, especially with the hinged addition for more table space I put on the back of it.
You could hang up a long bar to hang pots/pans/untencils etc on
I would keep the very minimum in your kitchen, storing the duplicates and things you don't use daily in a nearby closet designated for kitchen overflow.
