Hi Jeska! Kitchen can be a big unruly space! Since your first question is really broad...I'll just throw out a few things that helped me get organized. Reserve pantry space for food only... try not to store other objects in that area. Dishes, flatware, and glassware close to sink/dishwasher because this will save you steps. Pots and pans , baking dishes closer to range/oven/cook top. If you are short on space, get some of those wire shelves to place in each cabinet...the idea is to stack only one kind of plate so that there is no extra digging for what you need and it's easy to put them away too..without moving/unstacking anything to get it all back in! This is a big task...some would organize all at once but with children to care for, I personally would work it one cabinet at a time. When you have an area organized don't squeeze anything extra in there to ruin that neat spot! Good luck and let us know what size/kind of pantry space you are looking to create.
I find the best place to start with organizing is to get rid of stuff that I no longer need and use. The kitchen is one of those rooms where stuff accumulates. You buy all the fun gadgets that you never use and before you know it, your cabinets are stuffed. Get rid of stuff you haven't used in a year. Then group like with like.
Also think about where you use stuff. Put glasses by the sink or fridge if you have a water dispenser, etc.
It all boils down to common sense groupings. Like items together. Keep baking items together, breakfast items, snacks, etc. Have sections and use baskets or bins. Same goes for kitchen cabinets and dishes. Put lesser used items up high, and bigger, heavier items down low. Here are some excellent tips to get you started!
