A hinged top with a padded cushion is best. Sorta like those Lane hope chests of yesteryear. Maybe find an old hope chest. That would work if long enough.
If you use cabinet doors, you'll have to crawl on your hands and knees to get to the things inside...

Here's just one example of what you can find.
You could do just a board shelf with sides on it so stuff doesn't fall out when moved underneath. If you want hidden storage, then yeah like a piano bench where the top lifts up.
I would hinge the seat top to provide storage if you plan to storevlittle used irptems...is you need access more frequently, the make doors at the front of the piece
For me, the hinged top method is better because you don't have to stoop down so low to access the things inside. of course, it depends on what you intend to store inside....so either decision is fine!
