How big is your pantry? My girlfriend has a 2 step, with handrail, stepstool. Place the stuff up on top that is rarely used, holiday or party trays and serving pieces, etc. Or stash the extra paper towels if you buy in bulk at a club or restaurant store. Anything you do not use on a regular basis or is seasonal. If you live in earthquake country, be sure to secure anything breakable.
put stuff there you seldom use.. season pieces or stuff you only use when you have a big gathering. A roaster pan with all the stuff you need for a turkey. Easter pieces for decor. In my case its my 12 C coffee pot for a crowd. My glass ice tea or lemonade server for the summer bar-b-q, Pie pans inside the carrier. Any of the special baking items we all have (rolling pins, cookie cutter, muffin cups liners decorations of season colors) but only use 3-4 times a year.. I have all mine in plastic clear small totes labeled ..Vases are another good item to keep close but out of the way.. You can also store seasonal linens there also labeled as to the holiday or events.. Birthday things, fall- Thanksgiving, Christmas.. I also have a shelf with cookbooks on it.. I have my few favorites for go to things.. but have quite a few for certain planning.. Once you get started its not really that hard..
