Second shelf to butcher block table

I have an old butcher block table that I restored. I'm trying to add a second shelf to add more storage. Also would like to create some type of cover so items are not exposed. Any suggestions?

You can always add a skirt, or use a basket.

It appears that the current shelf is just secured with a long bolt through the leg probably with a nut on the underside of the shelf. If you can take it apart, drill a hole through each leg (measure carefully and put a level on it before you drill by marking the drill holes and placing a straight edge on it. Then add a bolt and nut. (You may want to pick up your bolts and nuts before tackling this to make sure you get the right size hole.) Then make a shelf and attache it.,,,a piece of MDF painted flat black would work.

The easiest way, no drilling needed, would be to buy a coated wire shelf that sets on the bottom shelf, like used in kitchen cabinets. You can find them adjustable like the one linked below if you can't find one that fits the width of your current shelf. You could even add storage under the shelf if there's enough room for one of these. OK, gotta put my 2 cents in..lol. You already have a bottom shelf right? I would take measurements and go to thrift shops and find a cabinet with doors. If it's not your color ,paint it. I too dislike the unsightliness of things out in the open.

As far as the cover, you could get some pretty material and make a skirt to cover bottom shelf. They used to do this in bathrooms and kitchens before they came us with the vanity with doors
