when we bought the house we didn't pay attention to the cheap short cuts the people had done in their remodeling. This drives me crazy now. Wasrted space. Help!

It might be fun to put stick on wallpaper in a pattern that pops to make it a decorative element. Or you could put hooks and hang pots/pant, towels, utensils, or both decorate it and hang things!

    Hi Regina,

I love that little nook! How about building (or purchasing) a cutting board or cook book holder.. something like this. They can be purchased at Lowe's, Home depot or and home store.

put the garbage or recycle can there (probably home made to fit well, a stack of cook books, or add some shelves for cook books, perfect place for a dog water bowl, put a piece of sculpture there, or a tall skinny urn, some shelves for a collection (tea pots?), a tall vase with silk flowers. Make a wooden base so it looks more planned and not just as an afterthought, that light colored shoe molding does nothing for the looks of the cabinet.

I like all your suggestions except for the dog bowl and you are right the light molding on the bottom is yuck.

Instead of hanging your kitchen towels on the drawer handle, why not hang them in the nook instead?

This would make a good space for a hand held vacuum cleaner- out of the way, yet easy to grab when needed.

Might be a good spot to keep a pet water bowl. Or, build shelves and use it for cookbooks.

Thanks everyone I liked all of your suggestions now to decide which one and how to do it.

Is there enough room there for your legs? Might be cute with a handmade foot stool and just put a bar chair there?!?!

I think I would insert a decorative piece and use it for spice.

Great place to put revolving shelves, no door neeeded

Lots of good suggestions here. That would drive me nuts, too. I would definitely paint or stain that moulding at the bottom to match the cabinet. The contrast really emphasizes it.

You didn't say how big this area is. Lazy susan, add shelves then door solid or glass insert with lighting

I have a similar spot in my kitchen but mine came with two shelves and is a perfect match to the cabinet. I keep my matching small and large slow cookers there.

Hang paper towel holder ad a fancy towel holder. Pet water bowl. Have shelves made to fit the space.

Wow, that’s a really crazy remodeling job. All they had to do was a lazy Susan cabinet. without seeing the rest of the kitchen or area, I’m thinking take out the drawers and make it a lazy Susan cabinet. I’m not big on open shelves, especially in a kitchen; too much grease and dust collects.

It would make a great space for spice racks! ...just mount onto cabinets and not only are they colorful, but very accessible!!

  • Joolz Bohr Joolz Bohr on May 02, 2018

I would go with a spice rack as has been mentioned. Or even hang a glass succulent terrarium. https://organizeyourstuffnow.com/hanging-succulent-terrarium
