Scrap Wood Over the Stove Shelf

Since I tore down my back splash and painted it a dark color I fell in love with my kitchen a little more and wanted to decorate it and declutter.

I really wanted to put something above my stove but since it's brand new sheetrock/paint I didn't want to mess with it just yet.

So I decided to raid my scrap wood and create a little shelf to hold decor as well as useful items I use almost everyday.

This has got to be one of the easiest DIY you can do for your kitchen!

I found a few pieces of 1x4's which would be the perfect size for my self.

I measured the height of the back of my stove as well and the length and I cut the boards with my Miter Saw.

Once they were cut I gave them a quick coat of primer, because I thought I was going to paint them white, but then at the last minute I decided to paint them the same as the back splash so the shelf would just blend in.

To put the shelf together I simply set the top board on top, pre drilled two small holes down from the top board into the "leg" board" Then simply took a small finishing nail and hammered it into the pre drilled hole.

So simple!

Makes a great little shelf for spices/oil and of course a little decor items as well!

PLEASE wear safety goggles, not just sunglasses, when working with power tools! the wrap around & larger protective area of safety goggles can keep debris from flying up into an eye & scratching cornea or worse! Wearing hearing protection is also imperative - when you get to Medicare, plans don't pay for good hearing aids, just basic ones - your quality of life depends on taking care of your eyes & ears!
