A Recycle Reuse Project

I always seem to save more magazines than I have storage for. My HGTV magazines get read several times, so instead of running out to buy another magazine holder I decided to make one myself.
I started with an empty cereal box, and cut the sides at an angle after removing the top.
Then I took some inexpensive adhesive paper and wrapped it around as neatly as possible. The one I had on hand was from the Dollar store, so I reinforced it with some clear packing tape, especially on the edges. I ended up repositioning it to smooth out wrinkles on the side of the box, so I knew the adhesive wasn't all that strong.
These were the only tools I needed, although you could use a ruler if you wanted to measure it. I just "eyeballed" it.icon
I cut up an old manila folder I had been going to recycle, to add a little more stiffness to the bottom. Then I tucked all the edges in and added some tape.
Here are the magazines loaded into the new holder.
I think the next time I do this, I'll add some recycled cardboard to stiffen the sides up a little more. As you can see, it stands fine on its own on my carpeted floor, but, I think a little reinforcement would make the sides less flexible. This is going on my bookshelf, so it is fine, as is.
Suggested materials:
  • Adhesive shelf paper   (Dollar Tree)
  • Empty cereal box   (out of my cardboard recycling)
  • Used folder   (out of my cardboard recycling)

I love how easy it would be to personalize it! The possibilities are endless! You did a fantastic job

Thanks! Not that I NEED more crafting supplies, but, will be keeping my eye out for more fun adhesive paper. I keep my fragile Christmas ornaments in a sturdy box that I used some on, so they are easy to spot. The stuff is pretty handy!
