These things aren't just for holding your trunk shut anymore. Bungee cords have so many additional uses around the house and for every day purposes. Give some of these a try and make your whole life a little easier. S-t-r-e-t-c-h 'em out!

Hack #1 - Baby Proof Cupboards

Curious toddler? Not anymore. Quickly solve the problem with a bungee cord.

Wrap a cord around the knobs tightly and voila! No more pinched fingers and dangerous discoveries for your little one!

Hack # 2 - Trash Bag Holder

Isn't it annoying when your trash bag just won't stay securely above the garbage can? It's such a hassle (not to mention a mess) to have to dig for the sides everytime you want to throw something away.

Solve the problem by wrapping a bungee cord tightly around the outer edge of the trash bag, and secure the hooks around the edge. Voila! No more lost corners and spilled trash.

Hack #3 - Quick Clothesline

No rope? No problem. Create a clothesline quickly, by attaching two or more bungee cords together and secure to a fence or tree. This is a great solution if you are camping, or for a day at the beach.

Hack #4 - Grocery Bag Saver

Have you ever opened your trunk after grocery shopping only to have all of your bags spill out onto the ground? It's the worst! Attach a bungee cord to the upper hooks of your car, and string it through the handles of your grocery bags. Your bags will stay put for the drive home, and no more messy spills or broken jars!

Great ideas. I like the panty hose one especially because I just happen to have a few pair I've never worn that needs recycling. Why did buy white pantyhose?

A hair tie also works for the cabinets to keep baby out, used it for my grandson for two years now and he is a smart boy but never did get these off.

Okkey Straps is the ‘proper’ slang name - great Aussie invention! My childhood memories of holidaying at our caravan, right on the beach in hot Aussie summer, have our car loaded to the brim with Okkey Straps holding everything down and on the roof racks too ready for 6 weeks away! Oh how I wish I were a child again!
