Diy Paper Pen Pot

This easy project is really quite versatile. You could make it and give it as a gift. Or you could make it to simply help organise your work space, desk or counter tops. It can be made in infinite colours and patterns to suit anyone's taste and is really easy to do!

All you need for this project is some patterned paper, scissors, glue stick, and some sticky decorations in a colour which compliments the paper/s you've chosen. You will also need some plain white paper but most patterned papers have white backs so there's not often a need for separate paper but that's up to you.

First fold a piece of your patterned paper in half.

Next fold it in half again.

Now you should have something that looks like this.

Repeat the folding in half and in half again the other way round.

Now you should have something that looks like this.

Now fold the 4 corners in so you fold the square in half diagonally as shown.

Now fold 2 opposite sides inwards like this.

Next turn the paper over.

Fold the 2 ends inwards as shown and you should have something that looks like this.

Now get a piece of plain white paper the same size as the section being held here as shown.

Slip the piece of plain white paper into the space.

Now slot the side of the patterned paper which has the plain white paper inside, into the other side as shown here. It should be a perfect fit.

Now you should have something that looks like this.

Repeat all steps so far six times. I have chosen to use 2 different complimenting papers to make it a little more interesting.

Stick all the sections together and you should have a hexagon shape. Now you need to draw around the base on another piece of your patterned paper.

You should have drawn a hexagon like this.

I drew tabs just a little way further out than the hexagon line and then cut it out as shown. The tabs have been folded just a little smaller than the hexagon line as they need to fit inside the pen pot frame.

Glue the tabs of the hexagon inside the pen pot frame like this. Rotate the hexagon tab template until you find the perfect fir. It is impossible to stick the 6 pieces of the frame together identically so there will be a 'correct' position for this base.
