Give An Outdated Basket A New Look With Paint And A Liner

I needed some organization on my kitchen counter for some vitamins, etc. If I put them away I never take them. This was the answer to keep them organized but still out so I can remember to take them.
I started with this small, cute, but outdated basket. It was the perfect size but I wanted it to look better. I painted the entire thing, inside and out white.

But the star of the show really is the liner. I had purchased some fabric to make window shades in the mud room next to the kitchen so I used some of the leftover fabric.
I measured all the way around the bottom of the basket then all the way around the top. There is a taper so they were different measurements.
Then I measured the bottom.

I cut my pieces accordingly adding extra for seam allowances.

I also allowed for the fabric to fold over the top of the basket about 2 inches.
I folded over and stitched the top edge so when it is folded over the basket it would have a nice, finished edge.

Next I folded the long piece of fabric with right sides together and stitched the edges together to create the seam that will be at the back of the basket.

Then it was time to add the bottom piece. I pinned it, right sides together to the side piece. There were some gaps so I was hoping it would come together nicely.
I stitched all the way around taking my time and pivoting at each corner. All in all it came out pretty good. There was one place where it puckered but I was okay with it.
It even fit when I got it done.
So now, this mess is gone.
And this took it's place. Yay!
It is such and easy project that didn't take very long and makes all of the difference in the world!
