Gorgeous Upcycled Shoe Box Storage.

Sometimes the easiest upcycles just require a bit of rubbish, some paint, and a sharpie.

I managed to create some fun and funky storage for my craft room by just using these three things.
The rubbish was actually some old shoe boxes I rescued from the recycling bin.
The paint was white chalk paint (like this one). I painted the boxes with chalk paint as it gives a lovely flat mat finish.
I have a collection of vintage suitcases in my home. I then sat down and doodled some of the various elements from the suitcases such as the locks and handles.

You can easily find similar doodles and images by doing either a google or Pinterest search. Or get them from my blog post.
Next using a pencil I carefully sketched out these doodles onto the painted shoe boxes. I used my original doodles as a reference point for this.
Once I was happy with the pencil designs. I carefully went over the pencil marks with a black sharpie
I did a slightly different design on each shoe box to make them more interesting.
I'm really pleased how my vintage suitcases turned out. If you have ever watched the Paddington Bear cartoons from the 1970's & 80's the shoebox suitcases look like something from the opening credits.

They are perfect for extra fun storage in my craft room and they will join my very popular Vintage Map Suitcase tutorial which you can see here.

I tired painting cardboard shoe boxes but the cardboard warped. How did you get it not to?

Do you know you can actually turn those type of shoe boxes inside out? Just carefully unfold, turn over and refold with inside out. It gives you a nice plain box for storage.
